Hi Silvia! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Sure thing! My name is Silvia, I’m a freelance illustrator and paper designer and I run a blog called Giochi di Carta where I share my creative ideas. I love what I do because it allows me to be creative and the variation is unbeatable - one day is never the same as the next. I live near Rome in a small coastal town called Nettuno where I work from home. I believe that our surroundings are fundamental for our wellbeing, and that’s why I put a lot of effort into curating my space. My interest for interior design was sparked while I was a student living in Milan, where they have a culture for appreciating everything design related. I love to mix things up and my home is constantly changing!

What are your workspace essentials?

A great workspace for me is bright with lots of natural light, well organized, comfortable and functional. I love decorating my space with greenery, I can never get enough plants! Oh, and I always need a great playlist playing in the background, it can be anything from jazz to electronica.

What is important to you when choosing pieces to surround yourself with?

Quality and design are the most important attributes I take into consideration when picking new pieces. I like craft decorations, objects that tell a story, and functional and long lasting furnishings with a distinctive design.

What do you like most about the Variable balans?

I remember trying Variable balans for the first time back in 2015 in Milan. The number one thing I appreciate about Variable is the level of comfort – no matter what position I may sit in, I always feel comfortable. I really like how it follows my movements and just naturally moves with me. On traditional chairs I would always hunch over my desk while working, but with Variable I’m able to sit upright without even thinking about it. I use it in my studio for the most part, but it doubles up nicely as a spare seat in my living room whenever I have friends and family over.

How do you incorporate movement into your daily life?

Since I spend most of my day sitting by the desk, I made a conscious choice a couple years back to prioritize movement and make it an integral part in my everyday life - so I took up pole dancing! It is fun, challenging and best of all it keeps me active. During the weekends I always go for long walks in the city or enjoy nature by the sea. And when I work, I move with my Variable balans!
